On Saturday, July 28, Zoe Starkweather, chair of the Search Committee, joined the UUCF Board members during their annual retreat. Zoe discussed the status of the search for a New Minister for UUCF.
The UUCF Search Committee spent the 2017-2018 program year working with the UUA Settlement Office to find a UU minister for this congregation. During the fall 2017 search season, no candidates from the UUA settlement system applied for our position. At the end of the 2017 season, UUCF decided to leave our open position posted and available for any ministers who had not found settlement during 2017. The window for this “second search” ended June 30.
Initially three UU candidates contacted UUCF Search during this extended period. After a Skype interview, the UUCF Search Committee hosted a potential candidate for a pre-candidate weekend and neutral pulpit visit June 8 -11, 2018. After consideration, that potential candidate withdrew from consideration for our position.
Details of the UUA search process were discussed at the board retreat, and Zoe answered questions related to the search so that the board can make plans and decisions for the coming program year.
In a parallel process, the Search Committee also interviewed two local candidates who responded to the position posting in the UUCF newsletter. The results of those interviews were shared with the Board during the retreat.
At this time, details and decisions related to launching a search during the 18-19 program year, and hiring additional staff members rests with the Board, not the Search Committee. Since the retreat was an opportunity for new and returning Board Members to receive information on pending issues in the congregation and discuss them in an informal atmosphere, any action decisions regarding these issues and topics will take place during upcoming Board Meetings. The next UUCF Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday August 9 2018.
Members of the 2017-18 UUCF Search Committee were: Pam Folts, Joan Smalley, Ron Krueger, Deb Simmons, John Helsom, Sheila Smith and Zoe Starkweather.
