Social Justice Update (join us on Sunday June 24 at 12:30p for committee meeting)
So much has happened at UUCF and with our partners to advance justice in the last 2 months. Our rummage sale allowed Wellness Aid, Motherly intercession, Family Promise of Genesee County to pick up item free to give to clients. Our May 12 Vehicle City -U of M Flint Jazz group concert and dinner raised $2500 which matched the $2500 challenge grant from 4 UUCF members. This effort leveraged $2500 commitment from U of M Flint. The Jazz Ensemble departed to Puerto Rico May 30 to give concerts on the "Uplifting Spirits" tour. Stay tuned for a Sunday presentation by Harold Ford who accompanied the group. Thanks for all the hard work involved in organizing all these efforts.
Our 2nd Sunday donation in June raised $335 which was added to an earlier $1800 donation to fund leadership training school attendance by members. This week long training returns many benefits to our faith community. Thanks for your generosity.
July begins a new year for our 2nd Sunday donation program. MUUSJN's own Jennifer Teed will deliver our message on July 8 when our special donation will go to MUUSJN. Check it out at www.uujustice.org and consider a generous donation to our state advocacy network. Creating "heaven on earth" requires organizing and issue advocacy in our political system. Let's continue "Standing On the Side of Love".
Last but not least remember our food pantry and donate as able. Hunger does not go on summer vacation. Rayna Bick for Social Justice Committee
