We are already a quarter of the way through 2018, how did that happen?! Each day seems to fly by us at lightening speed. One way to combat this is to become mindful and create a daily spiritual practice for ourselves. Last month I encouraged everyone to light their chalice at home. Now we can take that a step further by doing it mindfully.
Before we light our chalice take a deep centering breath or two, calm your mind and body. Think about the tool you are using to light your chalice, how does the lighter or match feel in your hand? Is there a smell that is associated with lighting the candle? Once it is lit how do you feel about the light? Are there memories that you associate with lighting a candle? Take another deep breath, maybe take a moment and think about the history of why we light our chalice or think about what you hope your Unitarian Universalist faith tradition will help you do in the world. Taking the time to develop your own daily practice will help you become more aware of how our chosen faith tradition does or can influence our impact in the world around us. Let me know how this goes for you!
