Our Committees

The committees of our congregation are what keep us moving forward. These groups are a great way to get involved and meet some wonderful people. You can connect with our chairs on Sunday morning. Please drop in to a meeting; they are open to everyone!

Worship

Chair Person: Sue Owen-Kinsey

The Worship Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Flint strives to make Sunday morning a welcoming, spiritual, and intellectually invigorating experience. We do this by ensuring friendly greeters, efficient ushers, sound technicians that are always working to improve our systems, committed worship associates and a meaningful music program that adds to the service. We seek to both support our ministers and create interesting lay services.
Upcoming committee meetings for the remainder of 2019 are on Thursday September 5, October 3, November 7, and December 5 at 6:30 in the Sharps conference room. These are open meetings, so come join us in working together to make UUCF better now and in the future!

The Operations Committee meets every second Wednesday of the month at 1:30 pm in the conference room.

Finance

Chair Person: Bonnie Pobocik

The Finance Committee of UUCF is tasked with keeping our church financially sound. We keep a diligent eye on the income of the church to ensure that our funds are appropriately spent. We seek to keep our staff, building and grounds taken care of, as well as to make sure the gifts for our outreach programs are sent to the intended recipient and used for the intended purpose.

We compile the budgets of each committee into our church's composite budget; we in turn balance that with income from pledges as well as income from building use rented to outside sources. Finally, we ensure that the budget remains on track throughout the fiscal year.

All of this is done while keeping our intentions set on caring for the beloved community in which we operate.

Faith Development

Chair Person: Cathy Stiles

The Faith Development Committee oversees the programming for children, youth, and adults of the congregation. Throughout the year we work with the ministers and members to host book clubs, small gatherings, classes and of course Sunday morning Religious Exploration classes.

Our committee meets the third Thursday of the month quarterly.

Social Justice

Liaison to the Board: Rayna Bick

Social Justice and Outreach Ministry at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Flint (UUCF) has a long history of direct giving, volunteerism in the community, support for oppressed and minority group rights and issue advocacy.  Many see these actions as our version of evangelism and mission work guided by reason, compassion, dialogue and tolerance.  Whether sparked by member, denomination, clergy, church committee, secular partner or church board initiative, all efforts must align with our principles and be non-partisan.  In addition, principles of justice and inclusion can be seen in actions and policies of operations, worship, membership and communications committees.

Communications

Chair Person: David Clement

The communications committee works together to enhance the communications between the organizations within the church and to share events with the public. We oversee the Facebook page, Instagram, and the internal media for the congregation.

Our meetings are online via Zoom, at 6:00 on the first Tuesday of the month. if you are interested in joining this committee, please speak with David Clement for more information.
